The media world is mourning the heartbreaking death of 29-year-old news anchor Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, who died after a violent robbery in Abuja.
According to police, Maduagwu, a rising star at Arise TV, fell from the top floor of her apartment during the attack on September 29. “She was rushed to the hospital, but sadly, she didn’t make it,” said Police Commissioner Ajao Adewale. The robbers, still unidentified, injured a security guard and fled the scene.

Her father described the news as “a devastating call no parent should ever receive.” He said his daughter was deeply passionate about Nigeria’s future and had dreams that ended far too soon.
Arise News paid tribute to their colleague, calling her “a brilliant journalist, a lawyer, and a cherished friend.” They added, “Sommie’s voice is now silent, but her spirit and legacy will live on.”
Maduagwu’s death has left the nation in grief, sparking calls for justice and stronger protection for journalists across Nigeria.
