Hollywood legend Jamie Lee Curtis has announced she’s stepping back from acting. At 66, she wants to avoid the heartbreak she saw her parents face as the film industry aged them out. “I’ve been self-retiring for 30 years,” Curtis said. “I want to leave the party before I’m no longer invited.”
Curtis, who rose to fame in Halloween at just 19 and won her first Oscar in 2023, spoke openly about aging in Hollywood. “It was painful to watch my parents lose everything they worked for,” she told The Guardian. That experience has shaped her choice to slow down her career now.

She’s also been vocal about beauty standards. “There’s a disfigurement of generations of women who are altering their appearances,” Curtis said, criticizing cosmetic surgery and filters. “Better is fake.”
Though she’s easing out of Hollywood, Curtis remains influential. She recently persuaded Disney to release Freakier Friday in theaters and on streaming platforms — showing she still has power in the industry, even as she prepares to walk away.
