A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Emergency services were called to Sheepridge Road on Monday night, where the girl was found unresponsive. She was taken to hospital but died in the early hours of Tuesday.
Police say the teenager is also accused of raping another 16-year-old girl in a separate case. “These enquiries are complex and will take time,” said DCI Stacey Atkinson. A post-mortem could not determine the cause of death, and the case is being treated as unexplained. Specially trained officers are supporting the girl’s family.

Shocked locals called the tragedy “absolutely disgusting” and “terrible.” One resident said, “Thirteen is no age to die.” The police cordon has now been lifted, but an officer remains at the property.
The investigation continues as detectives work to uncover what happened. The case has left the community heartbroken and determined to see justice for the young victim.
