The FDA has issued an urgent alert about Great Value raw frozen shrimp. Tests found contamination with Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope that raises cancer risk if eaten. Customs agents detected the material in shipping containers from Indonesia at major U.S. ports.
“If you recently purchased raw frozen shrimp from Walmart, throw it away,” the FDA warned. The affected lots have best-by dates of March 15, 2027. While shipments were stopped before reaching stores, health officials are urging caution.

Once inside the body, Cesium-137 can act as a long-term source of radiation. The FDA said the contamination likely came from unsanitary processing or storage conditions overseas. “We are working closely with Indonesian regulators to find the source,” the agency added.
Though the detected levels are below the legal safety limit, regular consumption could still be dangerous. Doctors advise anyone who may have eaten the shrimp to seek medical advice.
