The brutal murder of Elyse Pahler still haunts many, and now two of her killers walk free. Elyse, just 15, was lured to a field in 1995 by classmates who claimed they wanted to smoke marijuana. Instead, she was stabbed, choked, and left to die in a shocking act they called a “satanic ritual.”
After decades in prison, Royce Casey and Jacob Delashmutt have been granted parole. At his hearing, Delashmutt admitted, “I was the most responsible for the crime. I made this happen.” Casey also confessed he delivered the final blow as Elyse cried out for her mother and Jesus.

Her heartbroken parents described Elyse as a bright student, athlete, and loving sister. Her father once said, “They took her to the woods and sacrificed her. Our lives were never the same.”
The release of her killers raises painful questions about justice and forgiveness. Should those who commit such horrific crimes ever walk free?
