A mystery that gripped New Zealand for years has ended in tragedy. Tom Phillips, the father who disappeared into the wilderness with his three children in 2021, was shot dead by police. His children, ages 12, 10, and 9, were found alive and unharmed.
Police say the deadly incident followed an attempted robbery. Officers were fired upon, leaving one critically injured. Another officer returned fire, killing Phillips at the scene.
