The devastated boyfriend of Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee stabbed to death on a Charlotte train, is speaking out. Stas Nikulytsia, her long-term partner, shared heartbreaking photos and clips on Instagram, calling attention to the tragedy.
He reposted surveillance footage of the attack, writing: “This is important to know.” Stas also criticized passengers for failing to act and blasted the magistrate who freed suspect DeCarlos Brown Jr. just months earlier. “He should never have been on the streets,” Stas’s posts echoed.

Iryna had fled Ukraine’s war to find safety in the U.S., recently moving into a new apartment with Stas. Hours before the attack, she texted him that she was on her way home from work — but she never made it back.
Her family is demanding a full investigation and better public transit security. “No family should have to go through this,” they said.

Do you think sharing the footage could help bring justice and prevent future attacks?
