A Fargo woman is accused of hacking her sleeping boyfriend with a hatchet, leaving him seriously injured. Police say 23-year-old Lena Deoliveira struck Jonathan Granados in the head and mutilated his fingers in a brutal September 5 attack.
An eyewitness sleeping nearby told investigators he woke to Granados’ screams and saw a “trail of blood.” He claimed some of Granados’ fingers were “missing or hanging” after the assault.

Deoliveira allegedly fled but was arrested two days later in Moorhead, Minnesota. She is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault and is being held on $500,000 bond.
Granados is recovering after emergency treatment. “It looked like she split wood,” the witness said of the hatchet blow. The shocking case has left neighbors shaken and sparked conversations about mental health and community safety.

Should violent offenders with clear warning signs be monitored more closely to prevent tragedies like this?
