Washington Post columnist Karen Attiah has been fired after posting controversial comments about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
The 39-year-old journalist said she was dismissed for “unacceptable” social media posts following Kirk’s murder in Utah. “They rushed to fire me without even a conversation,” she wrote on Substack. “My voice will not be silenced.”

Attiah defended her posts, which criticized what she called “America’s apathy toward guns” and “racial double standards.” One post read: “Refusing to perform mourning for a white man that espoused violence is not violence.”
Kirk, 31, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University. Police have arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who faces murder charges.

Supporters and critics are fiercely debating whether Attiah’s firing was justified. “What happened to me is part of a broader purge of Black voices,” she said.
Do you think Karen Attiah’s posts crossed the line—or was she unfairly silenced?
