Shawn Johnson East opened up about the emotional significance of October 19th, the date of her 2017 miscarriage. She shared on Instagram that while the day is bittersweet, it also marks the due date of her daughter, Drew Hazel, born in 2019.
The former gymnast, now 30, expressed her feelings, saying, “I always wake up a little sad and a little somber on 10/19 but God works in such beautiful ways. I’ll meet you in heaven some day sweet angel.”
Johnson East first revealed her miscarriage in an emotional YouTube video in October 2017. She later discussed her guilt and fears on PEOPLE’s podcast, Me Becoming Mom, admitting, “I had abused my body for so long… I was breaking inside because in my mind, just as a mom, you have all of these guilts and these fears.”
Despite her struggles, Johnson East and her husband Andrew welcomed their second child, son Jett James, in 2020.
