Doctors reveal unusual symptoms of new Covid variants ‘Stratus’ and ‘Nimbus’ that are sweeping the US

Two new Covid variants are spreading quickly across the United States, raising fresh concerns for health experts. The strains, nicknamed Stratus (XFV) and Nimbus (NB.1.81), are fueling a rise in infections, especially in the Northeast. According to the CDC, some states like Nevada, Connecticut, Utah, and Delaware are already reporting very high Covid levels.

Doctors warn that while the variants cause typical Covid symptoms like cough, fatigue, and congestion, they also bring unusual ones. Patients are reporting “razor-blade sore throats” and severe pain. Dr. Aaron Glatt from Mount Sinai explained: “Some patients describe their throat pain as if cut by blades.”

Experts are especially worried about older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and those with weak immune systems. Dr. Tyler Evans, a former chief medical officer in New York City, said: “We’re in a better place than 2020, but transmission is clearly on the rise again.” He stressed that preparation is essential, but panic is not necessary.

Although infections are climbing, recent CDC data show Covid wastewater levels may be slowing down nationwide. However, the risk of long Covid remains—even mild infections can leave lasting effects. As Dr. Laura Malone warned, surviving one infection does not guarantee protection from future complications.

The bottom line: these new Covid variants are spreading fast, and while not more severe than older strains, they still pose real dangers. Staying alert, protecting vulnerable loved ones, and making informed health choices remain more important than ever. Would you feel ready if these symptoms appeared in your community?
