Mom, 46, tragically dies while taking a bath after holding phone as it charged

A heartbreaking tragedy has raised urgent warnings about phone safety in the bathroom. Ann-Marie O’Gorman, a 46-year-old mom of three from Dublin, lost her life after being electrocuted in her bathtub.

On October 30, 2024, Ann-Marie was using her cellphone while it charged beside her in the bath. Her husband Joe came home to find her unresponsive, with the phone and charger cable in the water. “There should be warnings that this is dangerous,” Joe said during the inquest.

Despite having preexisting conditions, doctors confirmed they played no role in her death. The cause was ruled as electrocution, with burns found on her chest and arm. Joe, who performed CPR until help arrived, shared, “You only ever hear how phones can survive water, not how dangerous it is.”

Ann-Marie was described as “fit and healthy,” making her sudden death even more devastating. Her story is a painful reminder: using charging devices near water can be fatal. Should stricter warnings be mandatory to prevent another family’s heartbreak?
