Gunfire erupted during homecoming celebrations at Alcorn State University in Mississippi, leaving multiple people injured and communities shaken.
Witnesses said chaos broke out around 6:30 p.m. near Jack’s Grocery Store on campus. “There were so many shots, I lost count,” one person told local reporters. The university quickly issued an emergency alert urging everyone to take shelter and stay indoors. Paramedics rushed to the scene as victims were carried away on stretchers, some with life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating, but details about suspects or motives remain unclear. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting local authorities. Governor Tate Reeves said, “Our state is praying for the victims and their families. Those responsible will be brought to justice.”
This marks the third shooting at a school-related event in Mississippi over the weekend. In Leland, a pregnant woman was among six killed and twenty others hurt during a homecoming celebration. Another shooting in Heidelberg left two people dead on a school campus.

What should have been weekends of pride and reunion have turned into moments of grief. As one local resident said, “We’re losing our sense of safety — even in celebration.”
