A DNA test has finally ended claims by a Polish woman who insisted she was missing child Madeleine McCann. Detectives confirmed that the sample “conclusively proved Julia Wandelt is not Madeleine McCann,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cranwell.
Wandelt, 24, is on trial for stalking Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann. She allegedly harassed them for nearly three years with messages, calls, and letters — even demanding a DNA test at their home. “I believed it was the right thing to do,” Cranwell told the court, explaining why police took the rare step of testing her DNA.
The test, carried out after her arrest in February, brought scientific closure to the long-running hoax. But the officer admitted he worried Wandelt would still reject the results.
For the McCann family, who have lived with hope and heartbreak since 2007, the ordeal brought more unwanted attention. As the trial continues, one truth is clear — science has spoken, and Madeleine remains missing.
