Inmate who had ‘miracle’ baby after using air vent to get pregnant learns fate for murder charge

A Florida woman whose jailhouse pregnancy captured worldwide attention is now facing justice for a far darker reason.

Daisy Link, 30, made headlines last year after revealing she became pregnant behind bars—without ever meeting the father. She claimed she conceived using sperm passed through an air vent from fellow inmate Joan DePaz, sparking global fascination with her so-called “miracle baby.”

But now, the same woman is convicted of second-degree murder for the 2022 death of her longtime partner, Pedro Jimenez. Prosecutors said Link shot Jimenez in the leg outside their Homestead home and left him to die. Her defense argued years of abuse and claimed the shooting was in self-defense.

An 11-year-old son testified that Jimenez had threatened his mother moments before the shooting. Yet jurors sided with prosecutors, saying evidence showed Jimenez was running away when shot.

Link gave birth to her daughter on June 19, 2024, while still in custody. A fertility expert called the conception “exceedingly rare.”

Her sentencing is set for November 21, where her family hopes her history of abuse and time served might bring mercy. For many, her story remains both tragic and haunting — a miracle entwined with loss.
