63 people killed in huge road crash after two buses ‘attempt to overtake in opposite directions’ in Uganda

It’s the kind of tragedy that leaves a nation heartbroken. In Uganda, at least 63 lives were lost after two buses collided head-on just after midnight.

Police say both buses were overtaking other vehicles on the busy Kampala–Gulu highway when they crashed, sparking a horrific chain reaction involving a lorry and an SUV. “It all happened in seconds,” one official shared. “Every passenger on both buses died at the scene.”

Survivors from the smaller vehicles were rushed to Kiryandongo Hospital, while rescue teams worked through the night to recover bodies. The Uganda Red Cross is now assisting families and emergency workers at the crash site.

This deadly road is known for its danger, but locals say they’ve never seen a tragedy like this. “Our hearts are shattered,” one witness said softly.

Tonight, as Uganda mourns, one painful reminder echoes — life can change in a single moment on the road.
