Kiwi woman shares five reasons she’s leaving ‘gloomy’ UK after 3 years – including ‘expensive’ flights from London to Europe

When Lindsay, a travel blogger who’s lived across Australia, Ireland, and Canada, moved to London, she thought it was her dream life. But after three years, she’s had enough — and her reasons are hitting home for thousands.

“It’s so expensive here,” she admitted. “You walk outside, and you’ve already spent £20. I tap my card everywhere — and stop checking my bank account.” Despite her husband being among the top earners, Lindsay says they still struggle to get ahead.

The grey skies didn’t help either. “It’s autumn, but it feels like deep winter,” she said. “The lack of sunlight just drains you.” She describes a “blanket of anxiety” that never lifts — from job insecurity to the pressure of London’s relentless pace.

Even simple pleasures like weekend trips to Europe have become luxuries. “Flights, luggage, hotels — it all adds up. It’s not cheap anymore,” she sighed.

After years of chasing balance she never found, Lindsay is ready to go. “In Australia, I worked hard — but I lived, too. Here, I just work.”

Her story raises a painful truth many won’t admit: when even comfort feels like survival, maybe it’s time to start over.
