Lucy’s smile faded the moment the nurse placed the babies in her arms.
Two girls. But she had given birth to a boy and a girl.
For years, Lucy and Ross had prayed for a child. When they learned they were expecting twins—a boy and a girl—their joy knew no bounds. Yet now, as the nurse avoided her gaze, Lucy felt her heart tighten. “Where’s my son?” she demanded. The nurse’s trembling hands and pale face said more than her words.

Moments later, the doctor stepped in, insisting it was “a simple mistake.” But Lucy could see the fear in the nurse’s eyes. Something wasn’t right. So she quietly followed them down the corridor… and what she overheard shattered her.
The nurse confessed she had swapped the babies—giving Lucy her late sister’s orphaned daughter and hiding Lucy’s newborn son. Her voice broke as she whispered, “I just wanted my sister’s child to grow up loved.”

Lucy’s anger melted into tears. Days later, when she finally held her son again, she couldn’t stop thinking about the little girl who had briefly been hers. That night, she told Ross, “I can’t let her grow up alone.”
And so, they adopted her.
Today, that little girl—Amelia—fills their home with laughter. Sometimes, life’s “mistakes” are miracles in disguise.
