Some questions simply don’t need answers — especially when love already tells the story.
At 51, Neil Patrick Harris has lived much of his life in the spotlight — from How I Met Your Mother to Broadway and beyond. But his proudest role isn’t on stage or screen. It’s as a dad. Harris and his husband, David Burtka, have been together for over two decades, raising their twins, Gideon and Harper, who were born through surrogacy in 2010.

Both men donated sperm, meaning either twin could be biologically his — but Harris says he’ll never find out. “I have no interest in knowing,” he explained. “We are their parents. I love them completely.” Their only wish was to both become fathers, and when both embryos took, they called it “a miracle.”
Now teenagers, Gideon and Harper are thriving — full of humor, kindness, and curiosity. “We keep waiting for them to hate us,” Harris joked, “but so far, so good.” For him and Burtka, fatherhood isn’t about genetics — it’s about showing up, loving hard, and creating a home where two children feel deeply seen.

Because in the end, biology makes families possible — but love makes them real.
