New data has drawn attention after suggesting that British men may be reporting larger average penis sizes than they did two years ago. Figures collected by the online pharmacy NowPatient show an increase from 5.17 inches to 5.63 inches when erect, which works out to nearly a 9 percent rise.
The UK’s reported growth places it eighth worldwide, although the overall average still remains far below the largest global measurements. Countries such as Sudan continue to top the list at around seven inches, while Italy showed the biggest reported drop, falling to just under five inches.
Experts warn that the rise may not reflect true physical change. Many of the studies relied on self-reported measurements, which often lead to exaggeration. Other surveys used small sample sizes or different age groups, making year-to-year comparisons unreliable.
Urological surgeon Dr. Richard Viney says there are several reasons the numbers may look higher. Different study populations in 2022 and 2024 can easily produce different averages. Age and body weight can also change appearance, as penises often look smaller when men gain fat around the pubic area.
He added that weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy could theoretically influence measurements. When men lose weight, more of the shaft becomes visible, which can make the penis appear longer even without any anatomical growth.
Pharmacist Navin Khosla notes that size has no medical impact and varies widely from person to person. While surgical options exist for men who want to change their length, the procedures are costly, carry risks, and are usually only offered by the NHS for rare medical conditions.
