Chris Hemsworth gives update on health after Alzheimer’s discovery

Some moments in life make us slow down and look at what truly matters. That’s exactly what happened to Chris Hemsworth as he opened up about his health and his father’s struggle with early-stage Alzheimer’s. Their story is now shared in a new National Geographic film that follows the two on a heartfelt road trip across Australia.

During the trip, Chris and his dad revisit places from their past, hoping to spark old memories. Doctors explain that familiar sights, sounds, and stories can help the brain stay active. For Chris, the journey became more personal after learning he carries two copies of a gene linked to Alzheimer’s.

The turning point came three years ago while filming another documentary, when Chris discovered his increased genetic risk. He says it’s not a diagnosis and may never become one, but the news changed how he thinks about the future. Even so, he remains focused on supporting his father day by day.

Chris has also spoken about how headlines twisted his experience into something far more dramatic. He stressed that his results are not a “death sentence” and that he isn’t stepping away from life or work. His goal is simply to live with more intention and stay present with the people he loves.

One touching part of the new film shows Chris walking through a perfect recreation of his childhood home. The old photos, VHS tapes, and memories bring joy and sadness to his family, especially as they watch his father search for familiar details. These moments highlight the emotional side of living with Alzheimer’s.

In the end, Chris hopes their story encourages families to cherish their memories and find small ways to hold them close. Sometimes the past can guide us gently forward, reminding us what’s worth protecting.
