Some stories begin with hope and connection, only to take a heartbreaking turn no one expects. That’s what happened to 51-year-old Blanca Arellano, who believed she had found love online and flew 3,000 miles from Mexico City to Peru to meet the man she’d grown close to. Her family thought she was happy—until her messages suddenly stopped.
Worried after days of silence, Blanca’s niece Karla reached out for help on social media. She contacted the man Blanca had traveled to meet, 37-year-old medical student Juan Pablo Jesús Villafuerte. His answers didn’t feel right. He claimed Blanca had “gotten bored” and left to return home, but her family knew something was terribly wrong.

The turning point came when authorities in Peru made a devastating discovery. Parts of a woman’s remains were found near the coast, and over time, evidence confirmed what Blanca’s family feared most. Investigators later matched a personal item to her, bringing the search to a tragic end.
Police quickly focused on Villafuerte as the main suspect. A search of his apartment revealed alarming signs, and he was arrested shortly after. Blanca’s family shared their grief online, describing her as a warm, loving woman who deserved so much better.
In 2023, Villafuerte was convicted and sentenced to 35 years in prison. A civil payment was also ordered to Blanca’s heirs, though no punishment can truly ease the loss.

Blanca’s story is a painful reminder of the risks behind online relationships—but also of a family’s deep love and their courage to seek the truth.
