Some birthdays call for something small, and others turn into a celebration no one forgets. That was the case for Noel and Sue Radford, parents of Britain’s largest family, when they planned a massive Disney World trip for Sue’s 50th birthday. With 22 children and 11 grandchildren, their idea of a family vacation is anything but simple.

The Radfords traveled from Lancashire to Florida in April 2025, spending around $70,000 on flights, hotel rooms, and theme park passes. They filled their Instagram with happy photos—Minnie Mouse ears, big smiles, and memories made under the Florida sun. But the turning point came when they returned home.
Just weeks after the trip, the couple was taken to court for failing to ensure school attendance for four of their younger children. Because the vacation fell during term time, local officials ruled the absences were unauthorized. The Radfords were fined over $1,000, adding another unexpected cost to their already expensive holiday.

The family defended their choice, saying the birthday trip was something they had planned for years. But school officials stood firm, noting that regular attendance is tied to better learning. Under UK law, parents must follow strict rules about taking children out of school, even for special occasions.
Despite the criticism, the Radfords have remained upbeat. They continue to support their large family through their bakery business and television work. And for Sue, turning 50 surrounded by her children was worth every challenge.

Their story is a reminder that big families live big lives—and sometimes big decisions come with big consequences.
