Actress has died after being hospitalised over extreme weight loss

Sandra Caron, fondly remembered for her lively appearance in Carry On Camping, has passed away at the age of 89. Her family confirmed that she died of natural causes in Los Angeles after spending six weeks in the hospital. Loved by many for her warm screen presence, Sandra became a household name not only through the Carry On films but also as “Mumsie,” the enigmatic fortune-teller on Channel 4’s hit series The Crystal Maze. She later returned to the show as “Auntie Sabrina,” a playful twist created by producers.

Sandra had been living in the United States since 2015 with her husband, American actor Brian Greene, whom she married in 1985. Although the couple did not have children together, Brian’s son, Marc, shared the news of her passing and explained that she had been hospitalized due to severe weight loss and several significant falls. He added that Brian, now 99, has recently moved to an assisted living facility.

Born in 1936, Sandra grew up in a vibrant Kensington home shared with her mother and her older sister, Alma Cogan—one of Britain’s most celebrated singers of the 1950s and ’60s. Their flat was a lively gathering place for stars including Noel Coward, Cary Grant, and even The Beatles. Paul McCartney famously began drafting “Yesterday” there.

After training at the Aida Foster Theatre School, Sandra adopted the professional surname Caron in tribute to actress Leslie Caron. Her career spanned television, film, and theatre, with roles in Z Cars, Dixon of Dock Green, The Belles of St Trinian’s, and many more. Her final screen appearance came in 1995. She also authored a well-regarded biography of her sister, ensuring Alma Cogan’s legacy lived on.

Sandra Caron leaves behind a rich creative history and warm memories cherished by fans and friends alike.
