Reports suggest Prince Harry was deeply emotional after King Charles announced a major change within the royal family.

Since stepping back from royal duties, Harry and Meghan Markle have remained high-profile figures, often at odds with the rest of the family. Tension has been especially noticeable between Harry and his father, as well as between the two royal brothers.

Harry and Prince William were once seen as extremely close, shaped by the loss of their mother, Princess Diana. But their relationship has cooled in recent years, particularly following Harry’s move to the United States and the publication of his memoir. Public appearances, including their father’s coronation in 2023, showed clear distance between them.

During Harry’s brief 2024 visit to the UK, he did not meet with King Charles, with the Palace citing a full schedule. Reports also indicated Harry declined the use of a royal residence during his stay. Around the same time, King Charles made an announcement that stirred further controversy.

The King named Prince William as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps—an honorary role many believed would naturally go to Harry, who served with the unit during his time in Afghanistan. Commentators say the decision highlighted the ongoing divide. According to one royal expert, Harry was “in tears” after learning that the role had gone to his brother, someone he reportedly associates with past conflicts.

Royal analysts note that Harry gave up such honorary titles when he stepped away from official duties, making the decision expected but still painful for him.

Despite the strained atmosphere, Harry met privately with King Charles in London in September 2025. He has expressed hope for reconciliation, though there is no indication of renewed contact with Prince William.
