A 35-year-old woman from Essex has gained a large online following after openly sharing her unusual approach to personal hygiene. Annabel Fenwick Elliott says she rarely showers, skips deodorant, often forgets to brush her teeth, and doesn’t bother brushing her hair unless necessary. She describes these choices as intentional, not signs of hardship or poor health, and says they simply fit the quiet life she leads at home.

Elliott works remotely and cares for a toddler while living in the countryside with several pets. Because she has little day-to-day contact with others, she says keeping up with traditional grooming routines is not a priority. She showers mainly when she plans to go out, and she avoids deodorant unless she expects to be around people. Most days, she ties her hair up and moves on with her day.
She first discussed her habits on TikTok before becoming a parent and was surprised when her videos quickly earned hundreds of thousands of views along with supportive comments. Many viewers said they related to letting personal routines slip when staying home for long stretches.

Elliott says she dislikes the cold, wet process of showering—especially in winter—and does not feel the need to change clothes daily. She also questions whether heavy use of soaps and deodorants is truly necessary, though she acknowledges that experts say deodorant ingredients are safe. She adds that humans bathed far less often throughout history and suggests modern habits may have more to do with culture and advertising than actual need.
While she admits brushing her teeth only once a day is not ideal, she says her stricter hygiene routine returns when she is working in an office or when her husband is home. Her online popularity, she believes, reflects how many people discovered during the pandemic that simpler routines can feel freeing.
