Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, moved to the UK after Donald Trump returned to the White House, hoping for a quieter life away from political tension in the United States. They settled in the Cotswolds, an area known for its countryside views and slower pace. DeGeneres often talked about how much she enjoyed the peaceful setting, the historic villages, and the general politeness she felt from people around her. The couple even brought their animals, including horses and chickens, and said the lifestyle felt simpler and less stressful.

But after about a year abroad, reports now suggest the pair are spending more time back in California. According to sources speaking to the Daily Mail, they struggled with the long, cold British winters and began missing their friends and social circle in the U.S. The source also said de Rossi is considering returning to acting, which would require more time in Los Angeles.
DeGeneres had previously explained that political concerns—especially around LGBTQ+ rights—played a major role in their decision to stay in the UK. She described waking up the morning after the election to messages from friends and deciding they felt safer remaining abroad.

The couple initially bought a large estate in Oxfordshire before selling it and moving to another property with more space for their animals. Despite enjoying many aspects of life in the Cotswolds, people close to them now say they are preparing to relocate back to California for warmer weather, work opportunities, and to be closer to longtime friends.
