A dramatic scene unfolded in central London when a skilled martial artist stopped an alleged assault near Moorgate Station. Witnesses say a man approached a teenage girl on her way home and touched her inappropriately. Moments later, two nearby boys confronted him. However, the man tried to strike them, which caused panic on the busy street.
At that moment, Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor Ivan Skoko stepped in. The 29-year-old athlete had just finished training when he noticed the commotion. Moreover, he saw the frightened girl and heard her accuse the man of grabbing her. Ivan crossed the road to help and watched as the situation escalated.

When the suspect swung at the teenagers, Ivan acted. He used a simple leg sweep to bring the man to the ground. Then he held him firmly until police officers arrived. According to Ivan, the suspect continued to struggle, but the restraint kept everyone safe.
The girl later spoke with officers, clearly shaken. She explained that the man had grabbed her and then stared at her before walking away. Officers arrested the suspect at the scene.
This is not the first time Ivan has intervened. Just weeks earlier, he stopped a suspected pickpocket armed with a hammer at another station. His success in competition—winning several major jiu-jitsu titles this year—reflects the discipline he brings to real-world encounters.
Ivan now plans to launch an online self-defence course to help ordinary people protect themselves. As he noted, situations like this remind us how vital community awareness can be.
