Maryanne Trump Barry, the elder sister of former US President Donald Trump, has passed away at the age of 86. According to ABC News, she was found dead in her New York City apartment on Monday morning.
Mrs. Barry served as a federal judge in New Jersey from 1983 until her retirement in 2019. She was known for her unique relationship with her brother, which she described in her niece’s memoir, “Too Much and Never Enough”. Mrs. Barry said that her brother would often ask her, “Where would you be without me?” (1).
Despite their close relationship, Mrs. Barry had differing views with her brother, particularly after the release of her niece’s book, which featured audio recordings of their conversations. In one recording, Mrs. Barry said, “All he wants to do is appeal to his base… He has no principles. None.” (2)
Mrs. Barry was a close confidante of her brother and was considered a potential candidate for the US Supreme Court. However, she retired from the judiciary in 2019 following a judicial misconduct inquiry into her family’s tax affairs.
