Afterward, strangers turned gratitude into support. A GoFundMe campaign for Ahmed surged past $1 million. Reports say investor Bill Ackman contributed $99,000. NSW Premier Chris Minns also visited Ahmed in hospital and publicly thanked him, calling him a real-life hero.
