Furious wrestling legend cuts ties with WWE over Donald Trump’s ‘incredibly cruel’ comments on Rob Reiner murder

Mick Foley has spent decades as one of WWE’s most beloved faces. This week, he drew a hard line.

After news broke that filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, had died in Los Angeles, President Donald Trump posted remarks that many readers called harsh and provocative. Then, when reporters pressed him, Trump did not soften his stance. Instead, he doubled down.

Foley responded publicly and personally. In a Facebook statement, the WWE Hall of Famer said Trump’s comments crossed a boundary. He also pointed to WWE’s long-running closeness to Trump and said he could no longer represent a company that, in his view, continues to embrace him.

As a result, Foley announced he will stop making appearances for WWE while Trump remains in office. He also said he will not renew his Legends contract when it expires in June.

Foley did not frame his decision as a rejection of wrestling. He stressed his gratitude for the career WWE gave him. He simply said he reached his limit.

Meanwhile, the Reiner case remains under investigation, and reports continue to shift as authorities review evidence. Still, Foley’s message landed with clarity: grief deserves dignity. And public power, he argued, should show compassion—especially in the aftermath of loss.
