Nearly 30 years after JonBenét Ramsey died, Boulder Police say they still work the case as an active homicide.
On December 26, 1996, someone killed the six-year-old inside her family’s home in Boulder, Colorado. The years that followed brought endless public debate. However, detectives say they never put the file on a shelf.

Since the murder, investigators have logged more than 21,000 tips, letters, and emails. They have also traveled to 19 states and spoken with more than 1,000 people. Along the way, they have partnered with the FBI and local, state, and county agencies. They have also consulted outside forensic labs as tools improved.
Now police report a meaningful step forward. They say detectives collected new evidence and tested it. They also say they re-tested older items to look for fresh leads. Police point to one major reason: DNA technology keeps evolving, and new methods can reveal details that older tests missed.
