Fears of Texas serial killer grow as 3 more bodies pulled from Houston bayous

Concern is growing in Houston after more bodies were found in the city’s bayous. Many residents fear a serial killer. Police and city leaders say there is no proof of that.

In 2025, at least 34 bodies have been recovered from Houston waterways. That is nearly the same as 2024, when 35 were found. This week alone, three more bodies were discovered—two in Buffalo Bayou and one in Brays Bayou. One was reported on Christmas Eve, adding to public worry.

Records from the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office show at least 198 bodies have been found in Houston bayous since 2017.

Mayor John Whitmire has urged residents not to panic. He says many cases involve people in crisis, including those experiencing homelessness, who may die from illness and end up in the water.

Experts also question the serial killer idea. Texas State University professor Kim Rossmo notes that drowning is a rare choice for serial killers. It is hard to do and gives victims chances to escape.

For now, officials say the bigger issue is water safety and drowning risk, not a hidden killer.
