TV personality Gayle King joyfully announced her son Will Bumpus Jr.’s marriage to Elsie Smith during Tuesday’s broadcast. The intimate ceremony was held at Oprah Winfrey’s home. King explained the couple chose June 2 for their wedding as it marked significant milestones in their relationship.
King shared photos from the day, including one of her hugging her son and another of Will watching Elsie walk down the aisle. “My favorite Will and my new favorite daughter-in-law Elsie Smith tied the knot on Sunday,” she said. The ceremony was a private family affair, with plans for a bigger celebration later. “It’s always nice when [Oprah] lets us use her house,” King added, eliciting laughter from her co-anchors.
The highlight for King was the exchange of vows. Will said, “I know the man I am, but with you, I know the man I want to be,” which gave King goosebumps. King and Smith’s father walked the couple down the aisle, with Kirby Bumpus as best woman and Smith’s sister as maid of honor.
King thanked her best friend Winfrey for hosting the wedding, calling it magical. Both King and the bride wore strapless Amsale gowns. The newlyweds departed in a decorated mini-jeep with “We married” written on it. The event captured the essence of love and family, leaving King beaming with pride and joy.
Congratulations to @GayleKing’s favorite son Will and new favorite daughter-in-law Elise, who got married on Sunday!
