Aryna Sabalenka has spoken about backlash to her match with Nick Kyrgios. She said she cannot see why people found it negative.
First, they played an exhibition match, meaning a non-ranking show game. It took place in Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena on Sunday, 28 December. They used a modified court and a one-serve limit, and Kyrgios won 6–3, 6–3.

Next, Kyrgios praised Sabalenka and called her a top player. He said the match offered only positives and felt very tough. Sabalenka, 27, said she fought hard, hit many good shots, and enjoyed it.
However, many fans and commentators disliked the setup. They pointed to the rule changes and Sabalenka’s smaller side of the court. Some called the whole event embarrassing, but Sabalenka said she does not understand that reaction.

Finally, Sabalenka said the match felt fun, unpredictable, and meant to entertain. She also said Kyrgios was stronger and faster, yet she welcomed the challenge and would play him again.
