A new study suggests breast attractiveness depends more on shape than size. Men and women shared similar views on what looks best.
How Researchers Ran the Study
First, scientists at New York University reviewed images from breast surgery consultations. The women were about 47 years old and likely had no prior breast surgery. Researchers then asked 1,021 adults to rate each image from one to five.

What People Found Most Attractive
Next, moderately sized breasts scored highest overall. Breasts with more upper pole fullness, meaning volume above the nipple area, ranked best. Nipples placed closer together and a naturally perky shape also scored well. However, perfect symmetry and large size were not essential.
What the Results Suggest
Also, the top-rated breasts averaged about 300 cubic centimeters in volume. Interestingly, the two highest-rated examples were not symmetrical. Researchers said overall appearance mattered more than any single feature. This likely reflects wide personal preferences across different viewers.
Finally, the study shows there is no single “perfect” breast type. Overall shape and balance matter more than size alone, according to both men and women.
