Police found human remains while searching for missing Texas teen Camila Mendoza Olmos. Her mother repeated four words as officers worked near their home.

Mother’s reaction at the scene
First, Rosario Olmos watched deputies and FBI agents recover remains in a field. A search volunteer said she kept saying, “So close to home.” The field sits near the family’s San Antonio neighborhood. Officials believe the body had been there about five or six days.

Clues found near the remains
Next, a firearm owned by a relative was reported missing after Camila vanished. Police recovered a gun near the body, but they have not confirmed it matches. Reports described it as a 9mm Luger pistol, the same make as the missing gun. A source said the remains also matched Camila’s description.

Last known movements and investigation
Also, Camila, 19, left home on Christmas Eve, believed to take a morning walk. Video showed her in pajama shorts and a black hoodie near her car. Officials said she left her phone at home. They searched the same field earlier, but high brush blocked parts of it. The medical examiner has not confirmed identity or cause of death.

Finally, Sheriff Javier Salazar said foul play is not expected and pointed to signs of self-harm. He said Camila showed depression and suicidal thoughts, but her father disputed that claim. Authorities expect identification within a day or two.
