Prince William Shares Devastating Update Eight Months After Kate Middleton’s Cancer Remission

Prince William has shared a candid update about the past year, speaking eight months after Kate Middleton announced her cancer remission.

In a conversation with actor Eugene Levy for Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveler (premiering October 3), the Prince of Wales described 2024 as the hardest year of his life. Within weeks, both Princess Kate and King Charles III were diagnosed with cancer, turning a public royal year into a very private family struggle.

William said the experience has left a mark. From a personal point of view, he called it “dreadful” and “brutal.” He also noted that life can test people, and that getting through those moments helps shape who they are.

Kate announced her remission in January 2025 after months of preventative chemotherapy. But she later explained that the time after treatment can be just as challenging. During a royal engagement in July, she said many people expect life to return to normal right away. In reality, she said, recovery is a “rollercoaster” and finding a “new normal” takes time.

King Charles is also still receiving ongoing outpatient care after his cancer diagnosis in February 2024.

William praised both Kate and his father for their courage. Still, his message was clear: remission is a major step, but the family is still working through a long and difficult recovery period.
