Londoner Criticizes American Tipping Culture A UK man living in Ohio says he is confused by constant tipping.
Tipping Culture Shock
Akafi Ali is a content creator from London. He currently lives in Columbus, Ohio. He recently criticized the huge tipping culture in America online.
Ali spent two months in the country. Now, he says he does not understand why tipping is so common. “What the hell is tipping? I don’t get it,” Ali said in a video.

Pay For Staff
Ali questions why companies do not pay workers enough to survive. He believes wages should not fall on the customer. “Why do I have to pay you?” he asked. The shock was so strong that he even had a dream about it.
Rising UK Costs
Tipping is also appearing more in the UK. The Scotsman Group added a 2% charge on drinks. A pint at The Grosvenor Cafe costs £6.07 instead of the £5.95 price. Some London eateries now charge a 15% service fee.

Space and Travel
Ali is also confused by the size of American roads and cars. He says everything in the country is just big. Additionally, he wants Americans to travel to other continents like Europe or Africa. “We need to travel outside,” he said.
Public Reaction
His videos received hundreds of comments. One person agreed that tipping helps bosses avoid paying living wages. Still, others told Ali to learn about a country before visiting it.
