A mother is warning other families after her teenage son almost died in a freak accident involving a phone charger. Danielle Davis was woken in the night by her 16-year-old son, Rayce Ogdahl, screaming for help. When she reached him, she saw serious burn marks around his neck.
Rayce explained that he had been asleep with his phone charging beside his bed so his alarm would go off for school. When he rolled over, his metal necklace touched the exposed metal prongs of a charger plugged into an extension cord. This created an electrical circuit around his neck and sent a powerful shock through his body.

Rayce stayed conscious during the incident but felt intense pain and even saw sparks coming from his neck. His mother rushed him to hospital, where doctors said he had suffered second-, third-, and fourth-degree burns. They also told the family the electric current was strong enough to have killed him. The burns followed the exact shape of the necklace from his chin to his collarbone.
Danielle says her son is incredibly lucky to be alive. She is now urging parents and teens to take phone charging seriously. She warns against charging phones on beds, wearing metal jewelry near chargers, and using extension cords. Her message is simple: no phone notification or alarm is worth risking a life.
