Gary Sinise has shared his grief after the death of his son, Mac Sinise, who died from a rare cancer at the age of 33. He said his family is heartbroken and is trying to cope with a loss no parent should ever face.
Mac was diagnosed with chordoma, a very rare form of bone cancer. Doctors removed the tumor, but the cancer later returned. Despite treatment, his condition slowly worsened over time.
During his son’s illness, Gary Sinise chose to step away from acting. He said his only focus was being there for Mac and doing everything he could to support him. He described holding on to hope, even when it became clear the treatments were no longer working.
Mac died on January 5, 2024, surrounded by his family. Sinise said his son faced his illness with courage and calm, and that he was at peace in his final moments.
Since losing his son, Sinise says his priorities have changed. Family now comes first. He has no plans to rush back into acting and wants to spend his time close to loved ones, appreciating what truly matters in life.
