A family visit to Texas ended in tragedy when 23-year-old Lucy Harrison was shot and killed by her father, Kris Harrison. An inquest in the UK has now revealed the key findings.
Lucy, from Warrington, Cheshire, had travelled to the United States with her boyfriend to visit her father. During the visit, she and her father argued about politics, including views on Donald Trump. The disagreement became heated, and Lucy was left visibly upset.

Shortly before she was due to leave for the airport, her father led her into his bedroom. Moments later, a gunshot was heard. Lucy was found on the floor with a fatal chest wound. Her father later said he had taken out a handgun to show her and that it discharged unexpectedly. He admitted he had consumed alcohol that day and could not recall whether his finger was on the trigger.
After the shooting, he was heard shouting, “I don’t know, I don’t know, call 911.”

Although a US grand jury did not bring criminal charges, the UK coroner ruled that Lucy died as a result of unlawful killing due to gross negligence manslaughter. The coroner described the actions as reckless, stating the gun had been pointed at Lucy and fired without proper checks.
Lucy’s mother described her as passionate, caring, and full of life. The case has raised serious concerns about firearms, alcohol, and how quickly conflict can turn fatal.
