Actress Cynthia Nixon spoke publicly at a New York protest about her family’s connection to the transgender community.
Nixon said her son, her sister’s children and her best friend’s child are all transgender. She shared this while addressing a crowd gathered to protest recent changes affecting transgender healthcare for minors.

The demonstration followed reports that a major New York hospital had canceled appointments for young patients who were scheduled to receive puberty-blocking treatment. The cancellations came after a new federal executive order restricting funding for certain transition-related medical care for people under 19.
Nixon told the crowd she was speaking both as a public figure and as a parent. She said her own son had previously received care in New York and described the medical team as supportive. She expressed concern that families now feel uncertain about where to seek treatment.

Supporters at the protest argued that transgender young people need access to appropriate healthcare and mental health support. Others, including federal officials, say the new policy is intended to review and limit medical interventions for minors.
The issue remains the subject of legal challenges and public debate. Several states have taken legal action to block funding restrictions while courts review the policy.
For Nixon, the message was personal. She emphasized that transgender children and families are part of everyday communities and said she believes they deserve care, dignity and stability during an uncertain time.
