Man suffered horrifying side effects after injecting himself with own sperm to ‘cure back pain’

A 33-year-old man was hospitalized after attempting to treat chronic back pain by injecting himself with his own semen.

According to a medical report published in the Irish Medical Journal, the man had been self-injecting monthly doses for 18 months. Shortly before seeking medical help, he administered several injections at once. He later arrived at hospital with severe back pain and a swollen, red arm.

Doctors discovered a buildup of semen under his skin and signs of infection. Imaging tests showed trapped air in the tissue, a rare condition known as subcutaneous emphysema. He required urgent antibiotic treatment.

Medical staff reported that this was the first documented human case of semen injection. While similar experiments have been conducted in animals, there is no scientific evidence supporting this practice in humans.

Doctors used the case to warn against self-treatment and unproven remedies. They emphasized the serious risks of injecting substances not intended for medical use, especially without proper training.

The case highlights a broader message: chronic pain should be treated under professional medical guidance. Attempting home “cures” without evidence can lead to infection, tissue damage and other dangerous complications.
