Transgender athlete sends defiant message to critics after dominating girls’ high school track meet

A transgender athlete responded defiantly after being booed at a Washington state track championship.

Veronica Garcia won the 400 meters by nearly a second and helped her team win the 4×100 relay. During the medal ceremony, some spectators booed while others cheered.

Garcia said the reaction was expected and told critics to “get a life,” adding she was proud of her performance.

Some rival athletes wore shirts reading “Keep Women’s Sports Female,” highlighting the ongoing national debate over transgender participation in girls’ sports.

Despite the backlash, Garcia said she accomplished her goal and remains focused on competing.
