Urgent warning over new Covid-19 variant that ‘experts fear is more infectious’ with case numbers growing in Britain

A new Covid variant, NB.1.8.1, is being monitored as cases rise in the UK and 22 other countries.

Experts say it may spread more easily than earlier strains, but there is no evidence it causes more severe illness. The World Health Organization has labeled it a “variant under monitoring” and says global risk remains low. Current vaccines are still expected to protect against serious disease.

Common symptoms include sore throat, fatigue, fever, cough, and congestion.
