Body language experts break down Trump-Biden debate: What was said when the mics weren’t on

In the latest presidential debate, body language played a crucial role, experts told The Post. Joe Biden, 81, appeared stiff and aged, struggling to move to his podium. “A lot of body movement…is hard for him to change,” said body language expert Miso Wei, attributing Biden’s stiffness to age. Biden’s weak and breathy voice further emphasized his elderly appearance, with Wei noting he seemed “out of breath.”

Conversely, Donald Trump, 78, presented his points with a robust voice, exuding authority. Carole Lieberman, a psychiatrist and body language expert, commented, “I feel happy, you know, buoyed by the way that [Trump] did.” However, she noted Trump’s tendency to self-praise: “He did a little too much, ‘I was the greatest this and I was the greatest that.'”

Biden, who once appeared empathetic in past debates, failed to connect with Americans’ struggles this time. Lieberman observed, “He was just trying to say, ‘Oh, we’re doing great,’ but people are really suffering.” She also noted, “Though I am certainly a Trumper, you couldn’t help but feel sorry for Biden.”

Even when silent, the candidates’ body language spoke volumes. Wei cautioned Trump against smirking during Biden’s speeches, while Biden often appeared lost when not speaking.
