Why U.S citizenship isn’t required to be drafted into war as attacks on Iran continue

The Selective Service System in the United States still requires most men aged 18–25 to register, including many immigrants living in the country.

Although the U.S. has not used a military draft since 1973, the system remains in place and could be activated if Congress and the president approve it.

Some people could qualify for exemptions, including conscientious objectors, certain visa holders, and specific family situations.

The law means that U.S. citizenship is not always required to be subject to potential draft registration.
