82-year-old Iris Jones from Somerset met 36-year-old Egyptian engineer Mohamed Ibriham on Facebook in 2019. After chatting in an atheist group, Ibriham confessed his love. Jones, skeptical at first, asked why he loved her despite never meeting in person. He responded, “She was such a charming lady, and he loved her.” Five months later, Jones flew to Cairo to meet him.
During their visit, they explored Cairo and met Ibriham’s family. Despite plans to marry at the British Embassy, they faced document issues and opposition from Jones’s family due to the age gap. Jones, living on a £200-a-week pension, dismissed claims that Ibriham was after her money. “I’ve spent years making other people happy, and now I just want to marry the man I love before I die,” she stated.
Jones’s sons struggled to accept the relationship, but Ibriham emphasized, “Love has no age and knows no limits.” They married in November 2020 but waited ten months for his visa due to COVID-19. Jones missed him deeply, fearing visa denial would be devastating.
Ibriham finally got a three-year visa after proving their relationship and passing the English test. They appeared on the Today Morning Show, where Jones declared, “Love conquers all.” Despite adjusting to new life challenges, she insisted their love remained strong: “One doesn’t look for love; instead, love finds you.”
