Jay Leno has filed for conservatorship over his wife Mavis’s estate due to her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. According to TMZ, her diagnosis has raised concerns about her ability to care for herself, prompting Jay to manage her affairs. Alzheimer’s is characterized by memory loss and cognitive decline, making it essential for Jay to step in.
Despite Mavis’s illness, the couple has continued to make public appearances, including their last outing in November at a comedy event in Los Angeles. Their last documented public appearance together was at the 60th Anniversary celebration at The Improv in Hollywood in November 2023.
Jay and Mavis Leno’s love story began in the 1970s at the Comedy Store in West Hollywood. They married in 1980 and have shared a remarkable bond. Notably, they decided not to have children, a choice for which Mavis takes full credit. At 77, Mavis is four years Jay’s senior.
Reflecting on their enduring marriage, Jay humorously quipped, “Not screwing around is a huge key.” He also advised, “Marry your conscience. Marry someone who’s the person you wish you could be, and it works out okay.” Jay’s decision to become Mavis’s conservator demonstrates his unwavering commitment to her during this challenging chapter of their lives.
